Is it possible to transfer stocks from my Zerodha demat account to my friend’s Zerodha demat account?

This is nothing to do with Zerodha. This is a transfer of securities from one Demat account to another Demat account. You can do this through Zerodha DIS slip. You can contact zerodha for this. Alternatively, You can login to your CDSL account and transfer the shares through your CDSL account also.

It is however recommended to do it through stock market itself as there is no brokerage with zerodha and you will get taxation benefits.

After the recent Budget, if your friend does not pay STT on purchase side also then he will not get any benefits under section 111A or 112 of income tax act. Moreover, since you are transferring shares off the market, you are not paying STT on sale hence you also will not get any benefit of STT u/s 111A and 112.

section 111a deals with Short-term capital gain which is 15% in your case. If you transfer off-market, it will be charged as per normal tax slab.

section 112 exempts tax on long-term capital gains.

if its huge quantity, please consult your Tax advisor before taking any steps.
